Calum Mackinnon


 Calum Mackinnon    

Calum is a degree qualified Mechanical Engineer with over 26 year experience in the subsea oil and gas industry.

Calum is Chief Engineer for Remote Intervention for the Acergy Remote Operations department based in Aberdeen, Scotland.  He is responsible for ROV development, tooling design, visualisation technology and several R&D Projects.  He also provides support to all the diverless projects across the Acergy group.


Chris Mott

 Chris Mott    Chris Mott has over 30 years experience in the upstream oil and gas business. A geologist by degree and a geophysicist by practice he began his career in seismic data acquisition and processing in the early 1970’s. Working in Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, the Far East and West Africa he has held various operational, commercial and management roles with a variety of service companies in the sector.

He is currently the Commercial Manager for Aberdeen based Fugro Survey Limited which is an operating company within Fugro’s Offshore Survey Division. The company operates high resolution geophysical survey vessels and deepwater AUVs. It provides critical survey and positioning support on third party drilling rigs, vessels and barges.

The company is expert in the interpretation of geohazards. It operates routinely in the North Sea, West Africa and the Mediterranean areas and has particular expertise in deep-water AUV operations which it has carried out in West Africa, South East Asia and South America as well as in its traditional market areas.


Dave Grant

Dave Grant      Dave Grant is managing director of Saab Seaeye, the world’s largest manufacturer of electric powered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

He has held senior management roles in the oil and gas underwater industry for over twenty years where he has been involved in product design, consultancy and also as managing director of Hydrovision.
 
A graduate of Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Dave Grant gained a BSc Hons in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an MSc in Electronic Design from Herriot Watt University in Edinburgh.




Donald Faulds

Donald Faulds      Donald holds an MSc in Offshore Engineering. He says that Perry Slingsby, with its long history and wide product range, is never a dull place to work! In the 11 years he has been there he has seen everything pass through the factory from cable trenching ROV systems to manned submersibles and he has personally driven the development of most of its bespoke ROV tooling products. He is pleased to continue to support UUVS as a stimulating forum where academia and industry meet to share news on underwater technologies.


 


Dr Bob Allwood

 Bob Allwood     Dr Bob Allwood graduated from the University of Reading with a degree in physics and obtained his PhD from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.  After working in the field of physics research for some five years at Heriot-Watt and in industry, he then turned his attention to the problems of working underwater.  Over the coming years he was to work the University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering on ROV development and then as Manager of Engineering in the University’s Institute of Offshore Engineering.  

He moved to Cranfield University in 1986 as Senior Lecturer in Underwater Technology and later was to become their Director of Offshore Technology where he developed a successful masters course in Offshore and Ocean Technology.  In December 2009 Bob was appointed Chief Executive of the Society for Underwater Technology.



Gwyn Griffiths


 Gwyn Griffiths     Gwyn Griffiths leads a multidisciplinary engineering research and development group. He specializes in the interface of science and engineering, particularly for autonomous underwater vehicles, and is currently developing new methods to assess the reliability and risk of loss of AUVs.

As well as numerous papers, his publications include three edited books on the technology and applications of AUVs. He is a Fellow of the Society for Underwater Technology and a past Chairman of the Society’s Council.


Keith Birch

Keith Birch      Keith Birch leads the Business Development team at NOC for technology exploitation. This includes looking for opportunities to develop new partnerships with industry and academia for joint research programs, or working with industry to commercialise products developed within the NOC research projects. He also manages the existing NOC portfolio of licensed products.



Maurice Fraser


 Maurice Fraser       Maurice Fraser is the Sales & Marketing Director for Tritech International Ltd.  Prior to joining Tritech Maurice spent most of his career with the Royal Air Force in a wide variety of engineering and management roles.  Maurice graduated from the Open University with a BSc in Mathematics and Computing in 1998 and joined Tritech in 2003, prior to taking up his present role Maurice was responsible for the Tritech  international commercial network.

Robert Sutton


 Rob Sutton       Prior to joining the Royal Navy as a Commissioned Officer in 1976, Robert Sutton served general engineering and student apprenticeships with Firth Cleveland Fastenings Limited, Pontypridd, UK, followed by a period as a research student in the Industrial Engineering Unit, UWIST, Cardiff.  On completion of his service in 1992 in the rank of Lieutenant Commander Royal Navy, Sutton took up an appointment with the University of Plymouth. In 2001 he was promoted to Professor and was appointed Head of the School of Engineering in 2007. Currently he is Professor of Control Systems Engineering in the newly formed School of Marine Science and Engineering.
